Today is my Grand re-Opening!  My website is officially reopen.  It's not perfect but it OPEN.  I will continue to build and update daily but I think that it is ready to recieve visitors.  So enjoy and even post a comment on what I can do to improve it.  We are a work in progress and appreciate your business!

April 19, 2009
I am almost ready to re-open my website.  I am excited because it more accurately reflects my goals of what I want to do but there is still alot more work to be down.  I haven't posted my ebay items for quite awile.  I have to fiqure out a way to do more than one thing at a time.

April 18, 2009
The last couple of days I have spent re-building my site.  Let me say that this is not the easiest thing to do.  Not at web host are created equal.  It is very important to pick a web host that provides user friendly, or downright simple dashboards for website building.  Lets just say that I have had to start over dozens of times.

April 15, 2009
My webpage is officially down.  Since I haven't found a new host yet, I decided to use a free service provided by my domain company.  The good thing is that I can keep up my site and continue to work on it.  The a bad thing is because the service is free I will have their banners advertised throughout my site.

April 13, 2009
Today I spent the last couple of days searching out web servers that provide the services that I need.  There are so many and the prices vary.  I do not want to commit to any yet, as many want you to pay for the year upfront.  The good thing is that I own my domain name but the bad thing is that my current host is about to expire and my web site will be down until I can find a new one.

April 10, 2009
I finally figured out why I wasn't able to post my links. My service provider does not support linking.  So needless to say I have to find a new server to host my site.  What a drag!  That means I will have to set up a new website and I am not the most tech savvy person.

Today I registered my website with an advertising company in order to be an affiliate. It was very easy.  Now all I have to do is to wait and see what companies approve me.  I tried to select companies that reflect my website and overall purpose.  The companies have to agree.    I get some responses immediately.  Out of ten retailers, six agree to postings on my website.  Four do not.  The confusing thing is trying to figure out how to link the banners and advertisements on my website.  I need to contact technical support.

Today my focus is still marketing.  How can I get my name out there.  I register on Facebook, Myspace and tried to join several Groups on eBay.  My intention is to attract “friends” and join groups to get myself noticed.  I also decide to register on Youtube.  I’d like to create a video commercial promoting my website.  Developing this commercial has taken my ENTIRE day.  It was challenging in that I did not have a video, per se.  I had a PowerPoint presentation that I had to covert to video.  Then adding the dialogue and music…more involved than I had planned.  I did not get to the social sites.

Today I read about Affiliations.  This is where companies allow you to post their stores or products on your website.  It’s advertising on the web and I find out that it is free.  Yes, FREE and you can profit if people use the links on your websites to purchase items from these companies.  I never knew that.  I just thought only well known websites were allowed banners and links to major retailers.  This is a dual partnership where everybody involved wins.  The retailer gets additional business, I get a commission and the consumer often gets a percentage off (due to special advertising strategies the retailers use).  It’s a win-win situation. I can even buy from myself.

Marketing.  I am reading about marketing your website.  It says that I need to keep in contact with all those eBay customers that purchased items from me.  That great but I need more exposure.  I have this great website but not many people know about it.  I continue to brainstorm.  What will make people keep coming back to my website?

April 5, 2009
I did not list any eBay items today.  I try to post on specific days when people are more likely to bid at the close of auction.  The day came and went and I just didn’t feel like it.  I lacked motivation today.  That is not good in business.  Especially if you work for yourself.  I need to focus.  This book has given me so many ideas, my mind is everywhere.  The ideas are keeping me up at night.  I really need to focus.   I have so many ideas that I need to incorporate into one company.  I will look into that.  Focus!

Today I received an invoice from eBay. Why?  After I have sold and shipped my items, I now have to pay eBay a percentage from my final proceeds.  I had overlooked this fee and it ate up another ten percent of my overall profit.  I am not happy about that but hey it’s the cost of business, I suppose.  One thing I quickly realize is that I under priced my inventory because the gross profit barely justified the net, especially considering the labor.  Lesson learned. On the bright side, my reputation is growing as a lost cost seller with high quality items and my business website indicates a few hits (not from family or friends).

Moonlighting on the Internet is an awesome read.  There is so much information about Internet business, it is awesome.  I am truly inspired to make this internet thing work for me.  I considered another business venture.  Digital sales are one major way to make money on the internet.  This appeals to me, because as I am now preparing to ship my sold eBay items and it is alot.  Packing the items was easy but shipping eats a big portion of your profits and I miscalculated.

My business cards arrived today! Too late for my first shipment but it’s okay.  They are beautiful.  They look so professional.  I am so proud of myself.  I have a website and I am officially “selling” stuff on the web! Today three more items have sold.  I’ve been sharing my ideas with family and I got another surprise in the mail.  I got the book, “Moonlighting on the Internet” by Yanik Silver.  I begin reading right away.  Up to this point I have been studying the eBay website for knowledge.  (They actually have something called eBay University)

Today my free boxes arrived.  The postman just sat them on the porch.  He also picked up my shipment.  No questions, no communication.  This is too easy.  I have free supplies and I am getting money for something that was sitting unused in my closet.  I should have done this sooner.  I continue to work on my webpage.  I keep getting new ideas, so I change it often and the good thing is that it is in real time. So any change I make is reflected immediately if I choose.

My eBay sales have grown.  Three more items have sold.  I am so surprised. I also have gotten several eBay emails with people asking questions about my products.  One woman asked about international shipping.  I didn’t know how to answer.  I have to research. I tell her that I will email her back with an answer.  I hate not knowing and I read everything I could and still couldn’t understand.  I decide not to sell internationally until I get clarity.  Today I shipped of my first item.  It was so easy.  I simply printed a postal label (paid through my pay pal account) and I put the box outside and the postman picked it up.  How easy was that? Wow.  This eBay thing is major.

March 30, 2009
Today I decided to order the website.  With the first month free and then ten dollars a month thereafter, this could be a good investment.  Ordering was easy.  Upon purchase, I was instantly given a web address and website builder program.  This is so easy.  Within one hour I had a functioning website.  Since I had already registered a domain name I had to figure out how to attach it to this webpage.  Upon reading I found that I had to have the domain server “point” to the correct web address.  It was pretty easy.  I also found that I had to go add my name to web servers like Yahoo, Google and Msn, so that when people type in my name the server will recognize my site. (wow didn’t know I had to do that)

March 29, 2009
I decided that since I now had registered the domain name to match my username, I decided to get a matching email address.  I easily registered my name on Yahoo.  I also decided that in order for my sellers to remember me on eBay  I should put a thank you not in their order when I ship their items.  I decided to go to Vista print and order free business cards.  Yes, they really are free.  The company adds their small logo to the back but hey it’s free.  All you have to pay is shipping.  I pick standard shipping.  Hey I can wait for regular parcel post.  I am so excited.  As I order my cards I see their advertisement for one month’s free web hosting.  It would be a great idea since I did already buy the domain name and it would be nice if I had a website that matched the business cards.  This is something to consider.

March 28, 2009
I am getting so many hits on eBay my items are selling like hot cakes.  The first pair of shoes sold as “buy it now”.  Somebody paid my full asking price.  Wow, I only had the stuff listed for two days and I’ve sold one item already.  Several of my other items are being “watched”.

March 27, 2009
Today, I decided I wanted to see if anybody else on the internet was using the name I had thought of.  I decided to Google it.  Great, no one is using that name.  I decided to register the name with Godaddy. Even better the name is available.  I decided to pay the ten dollars and register the name, just in case I want to build a website or something. While I am reading up on eBay’s seller assistance, I find out I can get free boxes to ship my items.  I just have to order them online.  Great, I don’t have to spend any money.  Yah.

March 26, 2009
I take pictures of all my items with my digital camera.  Twenty items in all.  I load just one picture of each item on eBay because the first picture is free.  I have to see how this goes before I start adding extra marketing.  Fees can add up fast if you’re not careful.  I didn’t want to lose money.  I only wanted to pay listing fees, no extra pictures, no gallery view, etc.  No extras at all.  My total fee for listing all twenty items was about eleven dollars.  I wasn’t quite sure what to charge for shipping, I have to read up more about this.

March 25, 2009
I went on eBay today and logged on to my account.  I had sold a few items years ago and purchased items from time to time.  I do not like my username.  It’s not unique and it doesn’t represent the types of items that I will be selling.  I decided to change it, but to what?  I decide to brainstorm.  What title reflects me and what I am selling?  My items were slightly used and they were really cute and fashionable. I also thought my name should be two words with two of the same letters.  I thought Secondhand items for someone who considers themselves a socialite.  Ah, Secondhand Socialite was born.  I changed my username with eBay.  It took me awhile to figure out how, but now it’s done.

Today I am enthused.  As I am sorting through my closet, I marvel at how many beautiful shoes and purses that I have that will never again be worn.  Ah, the beauty of accessories, the obsession of a career woman.  Now a stay at home mom, I feel a sadness that these items must go. My life is changing.

March 22, 2009
One night lying in bed, I remembered a pair of designer shoes I had in my closet.  Worn one time, they were beautiful, yet too small since the pregnancy.  And since I wasn’t going back to work anytime soon and didn’t have any money, I decided to put them on eBay and see how much cash I could get.  As I lay in bed I thought of all the designer items that I would never wear again if I wasn’t going back to work.  I decided that I would sort through my closet and see what I could post.

March 21, 2009
I decided that I wanted to be a stay at home mom.  The babies were born prematurely and there was no way that I was going to allow anyone else to watch them.  I could deal with not going back to work but I could not deal with no pocket money.  I needed to sell something.

March 20, 2009
Having newly given birth to twins, I knew that I did not want to go back to work.  My difficult pregnancy kept me out of work for months.  The doctor ordered me on bed rest, so all I had to do was spend time on the internet and read.  My disability insurance covered much of my bill, so being unemployed wasn’t that bad.
